Half Full or Half Empty – It’s Irrelevant

looking at half glassYou’ve heard this one before haven’t you?  The raised glass of water.  You are waiting for me to ask you: “So is the glass half empty or half full?”  But my response is different.

Instead, with a smile on my face, my question to you is: “How heavy is this glass of water?”

And here’s the thing.

The actual weight doesn’t matter.  It depends on how long I hold it.

When you consider different aspects of your life.  It honestly does not matter if you believe the situation is either ‘half full or half empty’.

The HUGE impact is actually all about HOW LONG YOU HOLD ON FOR WITHOUT CHANGING.

If you hold on to your glass for a minute, it’s not really a problem. If you hold on for an hour, you may start to feel some stress.  If you hold it for a day, a month or even years –  your arm will feel numb and paralysed.

The amount of volume in the glass has not changed.  But you are getting more debilitated, frustrated and in ‘pain’ because you have not changed anything.  So whilst the volume in the glass has not changed, the heavier it has become.

Your stresses and worries in life are just like that glass of water.  Think about them for a while and nothing happens.  Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt.  If you don’t change or get help, you will eventually feel paralysed – incapable of doing anything.

So please remember to change your situation and not feel you have to keep holding the glass.
